Fall is a Great Walleye Fishing Time

I usually confine my Walleye fishing to the Spring but have heard rumors that they really start biting in the Fall. Where should I be looking for them and what techniques work the best?

During the fall season is another time of year to do some walleye fishing. You need to choose the poorest of days to catch the most fish. The weather should be cloudy and a slight breeze is ideal. If it is drizzly, that also aids in hooking the walleye. In the fall months, you will catch more females than you will males. The females are consuming more food for their developing eggs.

Of course, if you are fishing for river walleye, you will find they feed all year long. You just have to know the locations where they feed. Walleye that inhabitant the rivers tend to find rocks and weeds in swallow waters and will have a feeding need anytime of the year. You can catch some pretty good size walleye in rivers.

The best thing to use to hook a walleye during the fall right before the winter freeze is a larger bait. The walleye are looking for larger food sources and your idea bait would be a larger minnow or a Rattling Fat Trap. You can use these baits for trolling slowly, moving the line in a smooth and even pull. The walleye tend to slow down a little as the water temperature drops and do not need to chase the bait.

You might even troll with a leech or a worm on a Rainbow Spinner. You will use a small hook and find some worms or leeches that are rather large. This attracts the attention of the walleye that is looking for larger food supplies.
