Use Two Lines When Ice Fishing For Walleye

Category: Uncategorized

When ice-fishing for Walleye is it important to run two lines or can I just use one?

When ice fishing for walleye, you want to use more than one line in different areas close to each other. The reason is that you can are allowing yourself more chances to hook a walleye. If you fish only one line, you are limited to that area. If the walleye spook by your one bait and move over a few feet, they are likely to strike your second bait or someone else’s. When fishing in groups, everyone should use the two-line rule of thumb. Your chances of hooking a walleye then increase even more. It is going to be a matter of preference more so than a necessity.

Another good reason to use two lines is you can use different bait on each line. The line, which attracts the walleye, is probably going to show you that the other line should also have the same bait as well. Also, keep in mind that the area you ice fish in is going to determine that amount of bites you have. If you fish a lake where there are weeds growing, you will want to set up two rods spaced about three feet from each other over the weeds.

Walleye prefer the weeds as cover, sit there, and wait for the prey to come to them. This is another good reason for two lines. It is not unusual to see three anglers encircled by six rods with tip ups. Therefore, it is best to use two, but if you do not want to move around the ice, you can choose to use one.
