Walleye Fishing on The White River

You have some great articles and information out there. Thanks for posting them. I live in Arkansas and fish the White River for Walleye year around. My question is, where do the walleye spawn on the White River? Gravel flats? Creeks mouths? Also, in what month would you say the actual spawn occurs? (I believe the 22lbr from Greers Ferry is the current World Record. One of your articles said it was two pounds shy. Please correct me if I am wrong, however.) Thanks in advance and have a great day! The White River flows in connection within the dams at Bull Shoals Lake. Both of these areas are very popular for fishing for a wide range of fish, including walleye. The lake is only a short distance from the river, so it is possible to enjoy lake fishing as well or to enjoy some other water sports. The town of Arkansas is very close to both the lake and the river, so it is possible to find local amenities. During the months of January and February there are a lot of changes that take place within the White River. There are a lot of fishermen that embrace the cold days and chilling winds, as they never know if it is going to be a wonderful day’s fishing or not. The cold water tends to keep the fish close to the surface of the water. These are the weather conditions that a lot of species of walleye enjoy. There are a lot of fishermen that go out hoping to catch a vast amount of fish. This is because they know that the fish tend to be closer to the surface in these cold months. Another of the best times to catch walleye is when the water is flowing faster as this will give the fish less time to decide if it is a line or a tasty meal, so they are more likely to take the bait. During these cold winter months it is worth trying out some different fly patterns. On some it is best to place the bait on the surface and encourage the fish to approach it and to bite; however, on other days it may be best to sink the bait deep into the water. One of the best lines to use is the dry line as this will often result in a catch, but like everything else with fishing there is no guarantee. What works one day may not work the next. The walleye within the White River tend to spawn during the winter months as well, which leads to even more fish population and activity.
