How would you fish the Columbian River for walleye?

The Columbia River is a great place for fishing for walleye. The first thing you have to look at before fishing the river is the flow patterns and the currents on the river. If you find a place were the current will carry your bait right into the gravel bar, you are going to catch some walleye. The other areas to fish for walleye are by the underwater rock formations and by the channels and streams that flow into the river. Of course, you do not wan to forget about the backwaters by the dams. I would use worms and spinners because they seem to work the best in the Columbia River. Use the bottom walker fitted to the worm and spinner along the bottom of the river in the areas where the walleye are hiding. Keep the bait out in front of the walleye and they should have no problem taking the bait. Another way to fish this river is with imitation minnow’s lures while trolling. The walleye are found in different locations on this river, so you might need a fish locator to find the fish or talk to the anglers on the river in any given day and find out where they were having good luck or not having any luck at all. Then just take over the water. You can present your bait and see if there are going to be any strikes. The best time to fish the river is early mornings, but some areas are good all day.
