Hi Dan i was hoping you could help.I want to start fishing walleyes on southern lake michigan (illinois /indiana border) but i really don’t know where to start any suggestions/help is appreciated. From what i understand their are a few guys who fish them down here and they are reluctant to help. From what i gather they catch some hogs!

Well here are some tips that will help you to get to the right areas in order to catch some walleye on Lake Michigan. Check out from the Illinois border, Waukegan, Winnetka, Wilmette, and Winthrop Harbor; while in Indiana go to the Indiana shoreline. Plus check out some of these hopefully close locations in Michigan. Here are some general access locations and the cities you will be able to fish on Lake Michigan from; Arcadia, Elberta, Charlevoix, Elk Rapids, Frankfort, Holland, Grand Haven, Ludington, Leland, Manistee, Mackinaw City, Muskegon, Northport, New Buffalo, Port Sheldon, Pentwater, Petoskey, Portage Lake, South Haven, Suttons Bay, St. Joseph, Traverse City, and finally White Lake. Check out the different locations with walleye on the mind. Find an area that has a bunch of rock formations, or even a log sticking out of the water, as walleye may habitat around these areas. Weed beds will also offer the shot at you getting some great walleye caught. Make sure you have the right rod and reel, preferably one that is a spinning rod. Get some jigs; get a few different weights, because it will depend on the depth of the water you are fishing in as far as what weight of jig you want to try. Get different styles too, and colors. Try and stick to red, silver, chartreuse, blue, and perch color. Have patience, and if you can get a boat or have a boat go and try out some trolling to get some of those walleye to hit on your lure. You will just need to work on your skill of casting and getting the jig down to the bottom of the lake. Remember not to move it a lot and to not give out too much slack. With too much slack on the line you may miss when a fish starts nibbling on your lure. %u2028
