Walleye Fishery between Manistee, Michigan and Frankfort, Michigan

Category: Uncategorized

hello DAN….FRED here in bear lake mich. does there exist a walleye fishery between manistee, mi and frankfort, mi., in lake mich proper. nobody seems to know and nobody fishes for them as far as i can tell. what is stranger yet, is the salmon guys never seem to accidently get one. if they are there, in what depth of water would they be hidding at this time of year in august? this question has always bugged me…..what say you, dan? and thank you….

There is certainly a possibility of being a walleye fishery between Manistee, Michigan and Frankfort, Michigan. Although in all fairness after doing research the walleye in that area didn’t seem to attract much attention. There are many different ways of going about finding out more information in that area. Local bait shops as well as state hatcheries might be able to offer assistance as well. There are also other resources available such as almanacs and fishing magazines that give detailed information about what fish are where and during what times of the year. In essence to the idea if the walleye were actually there and in August, the deeper the depth of water is where the walleye would most likely be located. Also, the walleye don’t really like bright areas so it could be that if the walleye are there they would be hiding in plant life and plants under the water too. Walleye like shiny lures and especially like live bait. Live bait such as minnows, leeches, and some insects as well. In reality however, it is amazing that if the walleye are there that no one has ever caught one. The concept is eluding. Another way of finding out more information is through local residents and those who are around that area as well. Michigan state web sites might be able to offer additional information on whether there are walleye fisheries in this area as well. And if the “salmon guys” aren’t getting any, then it is the best kept secret from fish anglers if the walleye are there.
