What is the best time during the spring to go walleye fishing in Michigan and what bait should I use?

Hi I live im michigan and I would like to know when a good time during the spring to start walleye fishing??? and what type of bat to use. Thank you

You do not really say where in Michigan you live or what area of Michigan you plan to fish, but for the most part, April and May are the best times to fish for walleye in the spring months. This is when the fish are spawning or just getting done with the spawn. You will have to check your local water temperatures to know exactly when the walleye are going to start spawning. If you see a rise in the water temperatures, you will know that the walleye are going to start spawning soon. You do have to be in the right area to catch them though. Without knowing your exact location, I could not be more specific as far as where the fish would be in certain areas. As for the bait you should use. You want to use a jig and a small minnow or leech. The small bait is what is going to attract the walleye since they are just getting done spawning. As time goes on, you will start increasing the size of the bait. Walleye will bite something larger, but for the most part, they are looking for something small and easy to catch. They are tired from the spawn. If you have a particular area in mind, you should watch the weather reports and the water temperatures. You can plan for April and when the water temperature gets a little warmer, you will be ready to get out and catch some of the post spawning walleye.
