What’s the best strategy for early spring walleye fishing?

Spring walleye fishing is not very strategic since walleye are fairly easy to catch before, during and after the spawn. Keep in mind that I strongly suggest catching walleye after the spawn to keep the spawning and populations of walleye in good standing. Know where the walleye are during the spawn and head to the area where they will exist the area. Walleye are hungry after the spawn, but offer small amounts of bait. The walleye are after a small food source at this time. If the walleye stream into steams and rivers to spawn, wait at the mouth for their exist. You can offer a small minnow and sit right by the exist area and catch some nice sized walleyes. Many walleye do stay in the rivers and streams or even the channels, but for the most part this is determined by where you are fishing. The thing you must keep in mind is that as the walleye are returning to the deeper yet still shallow waters, they are feeding. The walleye will not move into the deeper waters until the water temperatures start getting warmer. The fish likes the cooler temperatures. If you find an area on the water where the Mayflies are swarming, this is another great spring attraction that summons the walleye to the area, but it can be aggravating for angles. Mayflies are pesky and annoying while you are trying to fish. Spring walleye fishing is the easiest time of the year to fish for eyes.
