Catching Bigger Walleye With Artificial Lures Verses Live Bait

Category: Uncategorized

Can you really catch bigger Walleye using artificial lures than you can with live bait?

The answer is not about size as much as it is can you catch a fish period. Bigger artificial lures are used when the walleye are at the hungriest. When the walleye is in a feeding frenzy, you can use a bigger lure to attract them. If they are in a state of limited feeding, a smaller lure works better. Live bait works just as well as artificial lures. Many anglers prefer live bait more so than that of an artificial lure. It is all about presentation and if it is realistic or not.

If you use an artificial lure that looks dead and fake, you are not going to hook a walleye no matter how big or small it is. The same id true for live bait, if you throw a dead minnow in the water, the walleye is going to look elsewhere. Walleye strike things that move in the water, therefore, a large leech or minnow will work just as well as a larger artificial lure.

The answer to the question “Can you really catch bigger Walleye using artificial lures than you can with live bait” is a matter presentation and size, not about real or fake. As long as the presentation is there, the fish are going to strike. Large minnows and night crawlers are good for fall while smaller minnows and night crawlers are good after spawning. Artificial lures follow the same guidelines for size as well. The bigger the bait no matter what your preference will hook the bigger walleye during the fall feeding frenzy.
