Whats the best way to catch a walleye on a fly rod?

I have to be honest with you, many anglers will agree that a fly rod is not the best way to fish for walleye. It can be done, but it does take some different techniques than what you might be used to when fishing for other fish. The only time you can use a fly rod is during spawning. Post spawn is the best time to use a fly rod. During the summer and fall, you are not going to find walleye close enough to shore to catch. You will see some walleye bit in rivers and streams if you are using a fly rod. After the spawn is when you can use the fly rod. The walleye are hungry and still in shallow waters. You will be able to stand in about one to two feet of water and cast. However, you have to be incredibly still and quite when walleye fishing with a fly rod. Walleye startle easy and will run at any sound that they are not accustomed to in the waters. If you insist on fishing with a fly rod, choose the place you fish that allows for a little more room than what you would need for other fish. It is important to keep the fish close to you and not scare them away. Use your best judgment as to where to fish. You will need to know the spawning times in order to fish for walleye with a fly rod or you will miss your chance.
