Three tips to catch big walleyes

Once you have a bite the next step is to set the hook. The best way to do this is with a few short strokes of the wrist. If you jerk hard you may pull it all the way through the mouth and lose the catch.

Basic Walleye Fishing Information
There are a number of different baits that can be used when fishing for the walleye. They are very attracted to minnows, crayfish, spinners, crankbaits and jigs. You do need to present the bait in a natural way if you want to entice a strike. Otherwise, they will ignore the offering.

When using jigs the color is very important since this species can see so well. Use the bright, flashy colors when fishing in dark waters and the chrome or natural colors when fishing in clear water. If you’re having trouble knowing when you have a bite, try using a bobber. When it goes under, you’ll know it’s time to set the hook.

Trolling is an excellent method that helps you find the walleyes faster and discover which bait they’re the most interested in at the same. You can use different baits on each fishing rod and place them at different depths while trolling. This method also allows you to cover a lot of ground fast. Casting and drift fishing will also yield some excellent results if trolling is not an option.

Always stay alert and pay close attention your line for the best results. This is not a species that you can slack off on if you want to reel in a nice catch. You can locate this species faster if you look for the baitfish because they will usually be close by. It will also give you an idea of which bait to try first. Using electronics to help you find the walleyes faster is also a good option.

The walleye is a species that have many excellent qualities that make them a great gamefish. The challenge alone is enough to draw in many anglers. Add the fact they taste delicious and you can see why so many anglers seek them out.
