Some of the best techniques to use are trolling, jigging, and casting. Trolling and jigging will allow you to place the bait in the most productive spot where you can catch the most fish, which would be right in the middle of the school of walleyes. Casting allows you to get the bait out and in the area where the walleyes are located around structures without disturbing the fish. When casting you will be able to reel in the line nice and slow to attract the attention of the walleye and encourage them to take the bait.

Drift fishing is also a very popular way to fish for walleye that many anglers have great success using. You should search for the walleye around structures such rocks, ledges and weeds. When migrating upstream they can often be found in deep holes. Like other species of fish the walleye spawn in spring and this is the best time of year to catch them.

During the heat of the summer is normally the hardest because they are light sensitive and so they tend to avoid the light created by the bright sunshine.

When jigging use the right color for the type of water in which you are fishing. For example, natural colors work the best in clear water and bright colors work best in dark waters.
