Sandusky River Walleye Fishing

As time progresses, they move into the cooler, deeper waters. August and September are slow months for boat anglers to catch walleye in Lake Erie. In the fall months, walleye fishing can be frustratingly spotty, but if anglers concentrate on shorelines and boat fishing areas, they can see good success as they locate schools of forage. In the winter, walleye tend to bunch up again, and particularly in areas such as Bass Island, the ice fishing can bring the walleye to your table in huge numbers.

During cold weather fishing months, from January to March, tip your jigs with minnows, fish near the bottom, and use a slow presentation for optimal results.

From April to May, troll with crank bait, spinners and weight forward spinners to see good results. Use a slow retrieve, and if it does not work, consider stepping up to a moderate retrieve to test the waters and see if you can get a bite. In June and July, the walleye tend to suspend off the bottom, so adjust your technique accordingly, and cast and troll at higher speeds for best results.

The Sandusky River is a fantastic spot for anglers of all types.  No matter what type of fishing experience you have, chances are good you will find premium opportunities here.  Do not just fish in one area, though.  You can do a lot throughout the area.  Plus, there are usually a few great places for you to sit back and relax, in the warm summer sun.
