What equipment should I use when ice fishing walleye?

What type of electronic equipment do I need for ice fishing for Walleye?

Considering the most difficult part of ice fishing is finding the fish, electronics are a pretty important part of any ice fisherman’s arsenal.  Moving an ice hole is much more difficult than simply pulling in your line and moving your boat so you want to make sure you’re in pretty good spot before you set up your hole.  In my opinion, your electronic gear is going to just as important as the motor was on your boat in the summer.  Trying to find the log or rock piles that proved to be home to the Walleye in the summer is virtually impossible once the ice forms on the lake, making a Global Positioning System and absolute must.  You can purchase a good one these days for around $100.00.  Using the GPS, you simply input your spots during the summer and then pull them up so you can find them again in the winter.  Other electronic devices that can come in handy on the ice include a Vexilar flasher and an underwater camera.  The flasher allows you to see your bait and how the fish are reacting to it.  It’ll also help you to see whether or not there are any baitfish in the area.  An underwater camera will provide basically the same information and can also tell you identify the fish that you’re hoping to catch.
