Walleye’s Prefer green Weeds

Category: Uncategorized

Are there certain types of weeds that will hold Walleye more than others?

Walleyes actually attract to green weeds. The reason for this strange behavior is because of the cooler temperature and the weeds provide shade from a bright sunny day. The safety of the green weeds and the higher oxygen levels as well as the food supply in the areas of the weeds keep the walleye coming back and staying there when they need a safe place to hide. If you are looking for walleye during the daylight hours, you want to look for the places that have the greenest weeds with heavy vegetation around the area. This holds true for rock formations. If the weeds are around green weeds, you will find the walleye lurking.

For the greenest weeds, you will want to look for milfoil and coontails as well as some other green vegetation. The weeds you will look for should be in waters a little deeper since they do feel more secure when in the deeper waters. Shallow waters do provide the best feeding, but the walleye still prefers the deep during the day. One thing to keep in mind is that the smaller weed clumps will have fish hiding inside them more so than the larger clumps of weeds. The best way to fish these weeds is with the dunk method right into the center of the weed clump where the walleye are hiding in wait. The method works well and does not disturb the weeds and scare the fish by hooking on the weeds and causing movement.
