where would walleye go in late may
Any angler will tell you that walleye fishing in May will find the fish closer to the shorelines. The water temperatures in the deeper water is still a little to cold for the walleye to enjoy. Once June comes along, the walleye will start moving to deeper waters. Fishing in May will be around the shoreline. If you live in an area where there are May Flies, you will see many walleye in the area. You can look in about ten to twenty feet of water for walleye. Sometimes an early thaw and warming will allow the walleye to move to deeper waters earlier than June, but this all depends on the area and the weather. The river walleye will be near dams and closer to the shore as well. In some cases, you will be able to fish from shore and still catch walleye in May. There are many different scenarios for where walleye will be in late May, but one thing for sure is that you should look closer to shore. You will also find that using larger minnows in May will attract a walleye because they are going to be hungry from a long winter. I would say that you could catch a walleye near some of the weed beds that are starting to grow as well. Try the areas close to shore or near dams as well as just outside the mouth of rivers. You can also try the areas around shallow rock formations for some walleye.
