Barometric Pressure And Walleye Fishing

I noticed a barometer in my friend’s fishing boat. How does barometric pressure relate to Walleye Fishing?

Barometric pressure has a great deal to do with finding the walleye and determines where and how they are eating. You have to look at the low and high barometric pressure when you are heading out for a day of fishing. The way the fish move and react changes with the change is barometric pressure systems. It is very important to no how the weather was before the day you decide to go fishing. If you have a low-pressure system before a calm day with clear waters, you are going to have a problem hooking the walleye. They become spooked easily and are more negative about striking.

On these days, you have to use a different presentation to attract the walleye. Smaller bait and a slow presentation will work better under these circumstances. You will have better luck fishing closer to the bottom on these days. If you have a barometric pressure system that is steady for days prior to going out an the sky’s are overcast, you will have a great day of fishing. The fish will be in shallower waters and big baits are going to work great.

The weather conditions have a great deal to do with how the fish are going to bite. If you watch the barometric pressure regularly, you can plan your day out on the lake and have a successful day of catching walleye. This is why anglers have a barometric pressure reader on their boats or in their homes. Some even have one that they can carry around with them to track the weather.
