What are the best places to fish for walleye in South Dakota?

The best places to fish for walleye in South Dakota are natural lakes and smaller lakes. Devils Lake is just one of the popular lakes for fishing walleye. This lake however is the best for winter fishing right after the water freezes. It is more about the presentation than the area itself or the time of year. Most anglers will use a minnow. Other baits seem to work, but not as well as a minnow. Another place for walleye fishing is Lake Sharpe by the west Bend area. The anglers are pulling out walleye left and right. The guide services have reported as many as sixty fish a day. This lake has some potential for fall, spring and summer fishing. Even on this lake, the anglers are catching walleye with a minnow. South Dakota fishing is always booming. The smaller walleye lakes do have a lot of traffic. Do not concern yourself with the larger lakes, watch the reports for the smaller and natural lakes to find the hot spots for walleye fishing. Then get yourself some minnows and you are all set to catch some fish. The winters are cold in South Dakota, but if you can brave the cold, try Devils Lake and you will have some good winter walleye dinners. Fresh walleye are always better than walleye that has to be frozen in order to have fish dinners during the winter. Just remember to go out after the water freezes and go at sunup for some good catches.
