What Kind Of Reel Should You Use For Walleye Fishing? A baitcaster? Or spinning reel? What are the pros and cons of each?

For many people who love to fish for Walleye, the concept of which reel to use actually depends on the preference of the individual. The Baitcaster reel is great for catching walleye. However, this reel is also somewhat difficult to cast with. A beginner to walleye fishing would most likely not use this reel to begin with. The Baitcaster reel is considered light weight, however strong enough to withstand large fish and capable of hauling in “the big one.” The baitcaster doesn’t work well with the lighter lures because of its size. The spinning reel is very lightweight and is considered an open-ended reel. These reels are great for smaller tackle although perfectly capable of reeling in those huge walleye as well. The difference between the baitcaster and the spinning reel is actually the way the line is unspoiled during a cast. The spinning reel has no friction, and spinning rods come in a variety of lengths too. The pros of the baitcaster allow an individual to cast out and catch those walleye that are much bigger than others. In addition, it is powerful and has a long casting range. The bad thing about the baitcaster is that lightweight lures simply don’t work effectively with the reel. The spinning reel is great for casting without the fear of line being tangled. There is no friction and the individual is able to also cast out farther too. Many different lures can be used with the spinning reel as well. The bad thing about the spinning reel is that when used for fly fishing or the sort, the drag is a bit slower than other reels. When it comes to catching walleye the spinning reel also seems to have the fishing line break more too.
