Walleye Fishing on Lake Vermilion

Category: Uncategorized

Hi Dan, me and a buddy are heading to Lake Vermilion for the first time to do some Walleye fishing. We will be fishing the Eastern Portion of the Lake. I am the type of fisherman to stay away from the crowd and have found great success in doing so. Being that Vermilion is not the typical type of lake I fish in the winter, what type of structure and depths should I look for and what do I need to do to have a successful trip? Also do you know what parts of the lake we need to use extra caution around with the snowmobiles? We will be coming out of Pike Bay every morning. I have heard about bad slush conditions as well.

Walleye fishing can be very exciting. They can sometimes be difficult fish but exciting to catch. Some of the walleye can be extremely large. Some have been known to be about forty inches long and they can sometimes weigh between fifteen and twenty five pounds. It is possible to catch even bigger fish than these. Any walleye that is at least thirty inches long and weighs between five and seven pounds is considered to be a very nice fish. There are a vast number of fishermen that plan walleye fishing trips every single year. There are some very good lakes for walleye fishing that are located within Canada and the United States of America. One of the best areas for walleye fishing in the United States of America is Lake Vermilion. There are some other good places as well, which include Lake of the Woods, Mille Lacs Lake and Leech Lake. Most of the best places in the United States of America for walleye fishing are located within the state of Minnesota. There are also some good areas for walleye fishing in Canada. Lake Vermilion is located within the American state of Minnesota. The lake has about one thousand two hundred miles of shoreline. There are three hundred and sixty five islands that supply water to Lake Vermilion, so this allows the lake to have a vast amount of water. In actual fact, the lake has enough water to cover forty thousand acres. This large lake has a vast fish population, some of which are between ten and fifteen pounds in weight. Lake Vermilion is able to stretch across about forty miles of the center of the arrowhead area of Minnesota. Lake Vermilion provides an ideal outdoor getaway place. Accommodation around the surrounding area of the lake is not a problem as there are a vast number of resorts to choose from. As the lake is very big there should be no problem locating an area of water where you can be on your own.

Been fishing Vermillion hard with little to no luck. A walleye tournment here had horrible results. where are all the fish?
It is hard to believe that there has been no significant weather patterns to have upset the fishing yet no fisherman came to the scale with 6 fish with a combined weight over 7 pounds?? Since I spend the majority of my time in South Dakota and the rest of the time in Florida… I am a bit confused with where to target the fish? And why is it that the locals will not “promote” their fishery by advising a visitor where to have a little luck. It seems more common to “lie” than tell the truth.? Go to Florida and a guide many times will give the coordinates and a map to go with…. in South Dakota the guy might get in his boat and drive you to the spot. Do these people really believe that a weekend tourist who is coming to their community to spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars in the process can do more harm than good? – What happen to that “Midwest” kindness and friendliness that once existed? Lets share the good fortunes of the fishery and get the people excited about coming to MN for some fishing.
By the way…. where are the fish?
