Five Fishing Lures for Walleye Fishing in the Fall

Those who want to can add a spinning rig to compliment the bottom bouncer/walker and to attract the attention of the walleye more fully.  Many of the lures that are mentioned here can be used together to make a combination that the walleye are not going to want to pass up, even when they begin to slow down in the fall.

4.      Crankbaits – Crankbaits should be a mainstay in any walleye fisherman’s tackle box.  If you want one lure that is always going to get a strike, no matter the time of year, then this is the industry leader.  They work to get the fish’s attention by acting just like the natural prey of the walleye.  This is also a good lure as they can be productive over a wider range than other lures can.  Bottom trolling is very effective when using this type of bait.  It is important to choose the perfect crankbait for use for walleye fishing.  Make sure you are using crankbaits that are around the same size as the natural prey.

It can take some trial and error to get the perfect one, but when you do, you are going to be very successful at landing walleye in the fall.

5.      The Larger the Better – This goes for any bait or lure that is going to be used in the fall.  This is because it is important for the walleye to conserve energy.  The female walleyes are going to be feeding to take care of their eggs.  They are not going to want to chase around a lot of small fish, they are going to want to eat one large meal at a time.

For this reason, it is important in the fall to use the larger walleye baits and lures that can be found. This is going to get you more strikes on your line and a better likelihood of catching the really big walleyes.

Conversely, you are going to want to use line that is not very visible in the water.  The smaller test lines are going to work better than using the heavy pound tests.  This is because the walleye are not going to be able to see the line.  If they can see the line, they are not going to strike on your bait no matter what types of lures are being used.
