Anyone that likes to fish for walleye know that these fish are actually carnivores and love nothing better than to catch smaller fish and eat them. However, with this in mind the walleye are also fish and therefore there are many lures, jigs, and other bait that will catch them too. As far as jigs are concerned in the category of killer baits for catching walleye the hair jigs work good as well as those glow lures that are easy for the walleye to see. Lures that move or wiggle a lot are also a must have for your killer bait list. Another of course is that being live bait. Nice fat night crawlers are a treat for walleye and they will bite most of the time. Even those that are only scented and really aren’t the real thing. Above all the walleye love to see a minnow swimming along before their eyes, even if they don’t know that the minnow is attached to a hook. This is of course because of the carnivore in the walleye, and fresh prey is something many of the walleye just can’t pass up. Bait known as stick bait often works in colder weather and should be a part of your killer bait list combination as well. Even the best fish anglers will tell you that by using these types of bait to fish for walleye, you literally have a killer bait list to get you going. However, keep in mind if the bait isn’t working try another area; it might be that the walleye are hiding in another part of the water.
