A Hunt for Surgical Tubing

Category: Uncategorized

I’ve heard that surgical tubing is a great product to use when making your own lures - can you tell me where you can buy this stuff?

Surgical tubing is ideal material for making jigs, umbrella rigs or virtually any other fishing lure you can imagine. This material is highly effective due to its ability to stretch over 750% in size. When making lures, the tubing easily cuts with a pair of sharp scissors. The tubing produces some of the most effective jig heads or artificial eels in the water. You will soon find a million and one other uses around the shoreline and boats that go beyond homemade lure applications. One of the best places to shop for surgical tubing is online. There is a popular website called www.4fishin.com that sells surgical tubing in ten standard and fluorescent colors. Information details come in terms of inside diameter (ID) and outside diameter (OD) measurements. Inside diameter is the area of the hole in the tubing. Outside diameter measures across the entire tube, which includes both sidewalls. Selections begin with measurements of 3/32” ID x 1/32” thickness available in black and beige basic colors only. These start at $3.50 for a five-foot coil length. Next is the measurement of 1/8” ID x 1/32” thickness with a 3/16” OD. This is available in all colors except for blue. Starting price for a five-foot coil is $3.95. This is only a snap shot of what the website has to offer for surgical tubing products. Another website www.allwaterfishing.com carries a line of surgical tubing products. This vendor has the product available in 20’ rolls that come in green, pink, natural and dark greens colors only. Here the product price is a flat $12.99 regardless of color choice. Outside of online retailers, check with fishing shops such as Bass Pro Shop. While this store does not carry surgical tubing separately, it does carry lures made with surgical tubing.
