If you want you can also move upstream and catch some more Walleye there – those that are still struggling against the stream. The current in the holes are slower compared to the current top water. So the stronger the current in the lake, the more chance you have of catching the Walleye while they are resting in their holes before they move on with their journey.

Keep in mind that every river or dam you fish is not going to be the same as the other. This is an obvious statement, but one would be surprised at how many people think that because they caught 12 Walleye in one lake they should catch the same amount using the same techniques in another lake. You might find that you are able to use crankbait in one river and find that a crankbait will not work in the next. Instead you are going to have to use a jig and small minnow.

However, you can’t just use any minnow. It is going to depend on the time of year and the size of the Walleye in order to determine what minnow you will use.

If you find that the day you are fishing is somewhat colder than others, you might want to consider leaving the lake for that day and moving on to a river.

You will find Walleye on riversides if the temperature of the water cools down. The temperature is what matters most when you are looking to catch Walleye fish.

You have to go where the water is warm sometimes, and other times you will follow the colder waters. It all depends.

Walleye are not always difficult fish to catch but they have their preferences, and if you wish to have a few of them biting on your line there are guidelines you should follow.
