The Maumee River Walleye Run

Most fish in the Maumee Run grow to a length of 75 cm and weighs up to 7 kg. The growth of the fish depends on the natural habitat and the water conditions. Walleye female fish is always larger than the male fish. This fish is olive and golden in color though the beautiful chintzes shades off to white at the belly and on the lower lobe of the caudal fin. The fish has a wide mouth with sharp pointed teeth.

Fishing in Maumee River Run is done using live minors or small fish mimic. Anglers in the river prefer fishing during the walleye chop, a time when they believe that feeding on fish is generally high among the local population.

Fishing for walleye fish is much easier and a fantasy during springtime. It is a time when fishing is done using baits or lures. It is also easier to fish during the fall when the fish feeding activity is still moderately high. During the summer, capturing of these fish can prove to be a mountain task and quite challenging. .

Apart from fish, economical potential and the diversity of life, the Maumee River Walleye Run has an ambience that is more than scintillating. The serenity of its environs and beautiful islands provides a spectacular scenery of the river. However, the diversity has resulted into a quest for resources and food.

It has been nakedly evincible that the river is presently over fished hence the need to protect it from becoming an environmental challenge.
