What setup would you use to catch big walleye?
The best setup for catching the big walleye would be a six to eight pound test line with a six-foot leader and a crankbait while trolling. Trolling has become very popular when catching walleye. Although this method works, no one setup is the same and the different weather conditions will change the setup you use on any given day. You make be able to troll one day and the next day, not have anything. I recently heard something that I am not to sure about, but I will be conducting a survey to see if this is true or not. Someone recently said that catching walleye for the three days around the full moon is the best time to catch walleye. This angler said that the walleye go into a feeding frenzy. I am not convinced, but I will check this out. I still say that the best way to catch walleye is with a setup that works. Some setups that utilize the bottom bouncers are great for catching walleye, but then again, you have to know the water you are fishing. You have to track where and when you are bottom bouncing. There are so many variables to consider when using a specific setup. One day you might find using a bottom bouncer works, while another day, you might have the best luck trolling with crankbaits. It is best to try a few different setups to see which one will work for that particular day and time as well as weather condition.
