What Is Your Personal Favorite Walleye Ice Fishing Technique

What is YOUR personal favorite walleye ice fishing technique? I just want something simple – that works.

My favorite technique for ice fishing for walleye is simple, I like to drill two holes about thirty feet away from each other and set them with a tip up. I like to use the jigging raps for certain lakes, but I have found that tipping my jigs with some meat works for catching the walleye during the winter. You can use the easiest way you find, but it is going to depend on the lake you are fishing. I would say the best way to ice fish for walleye that is a favorite of mine is the tip ups. I know other anglers will disagree with tip ups, but I seem to have success with this technique. I have found that some lakes, I do better with a minnow, but you have to pay attention the bait because it does stop attracting the walleye after a while in the cold waters. The one thing to stay away from is night crawlers during the winter months. Ice fishing with a hook and a minnow is effective in most lakes, but if you are fishing the underwater rock formations or dead wood, you should have a jig that is heavy enough to drop into the area. Use the right test line during the winter. You might want to keep a certain test line for winter fishing that is a little heavier and keep the lightweight test line for the spring and summer. You should do well if you use any of these simple techniques.
