I’ll be in Clifton, Missouri, and I am looking for some good spots to catch walleye…any ideas? Also, what’s the local forage fish?
I can only assume that you are talking about Clifton Hill. In Clifton Hill, the Thomas Hill Reservoir is the place to fish for walleye. It is about eight miles from Clifton Hill and has about forty-five hundred acres of lake. This is a rare place to fish because the water is warmer. There have been reports of walleye coming out of this reservoir, but it you travel over to Mark Twain Lake, you might have some luck catching a walleye or two. Understand that the walleye fishing in Missouri is not what it should be for some reason. Other than the Mark Twain Lake, anything else would be farther away from the area you are planning to be in. Might I suggest that if you are looking for some fishing in Clifton Hill, crappie are what anglers are catching out of the Thomas Hill Reservoir. I know it is hard to change or know other fishing techniques, this is the only thing I could suggest since walleye fishing in this particular area is slim. You might try asking the local bait shop if things are changing around the area as the temperatures change, but from all indications, Clifton Hill is not popular for walleye fishing. You can talk to the local sporting goods store, but I think you would be better traveling to Mark Twain Lake if you want a better chance of catching the walleye. As for the forage fish in the area, shad is the top of the list.
