I in Chicago. I would love to fish a lake within a 6-8 hr drive for walleye. I have my own boat and would like to get out on the water. Most lakes north such as chippewa flowage has already turned over with many resorts shutting down this week end. West maybe? Am I a dollar short and a day late? Can u recommend a location? Greg

If you are looking for something within six to eight hours of Chicago, you can travel to in your own area to find some good walleye fishing. The outlying areas around Chicago have some good fishing and some rivers and lakes are noted for walleye fishing. However, if you want to try another area, one place to fish for walleye is Iowa. Iowa has some good areas for walleye fishing any time of the year. If you are going in the fall, you will want to try the Mississippi River.

The walleye seem to be biting at a minnow. The area that seems the best for walleye is the area by Credit Island. There are some other lakes and rivers in Iowa that are offering some great walleye fishing as well. During the fall Lake Rathbun is where anglers are fishing by the drop-offs and the islands underwater with trolling a crankbait. Walleye fishing does seem to be a little slower in the west during the fall, but if travel north, you will find some fine walleye fishing.

Up north by Michigan or even Lake Erie is still finding that fall fishing for walleye is doing just fine. These places are all in your six to eight hour traveling time and you can take a boat along. Many of the area hotels are open all year since it is a popular place for ice fishing as well  If you are not set on walleye fishing in the west, you would do well in the north.
