How to make and use a Surgeon’s Loop

Category: Uncategorized

Can you tell how to tie a Surgeon’s Loop and when I should use it?

You can use the Surgeon’s Knot on the end of the fly line that way you will be able to attach leaders that have loops in them with ease. This will allow you to change out leaders in just a few seconds. You can also use the Surgeon’s knot to improve your cinch k not as well. This is also one of the easiest knots to tie so this will be helpful if you are left in a bind and don’t have much time for more difficult knots. You can even accomplish this knot in the dark with cold fingers. Be careful as this knot has been known to pick up junk in the water such as weeds and other stuff. The surgeon’s knot also will allow you extra movement to fly and it will make your nymph baits dance. Here are simple steps to tying the Surgeon’s Knot: 1. First you will need to place the leader and the line parallel to one other by using at least 6 inches of overlap and moisten the area. 2. Second you will need top make a loop using the two lines just as if you are working with just one line. 3. Next you will need to hold the junction right where the leader and the end of your line going to your rod meet. You need to pass this and the whole leader right through the loop that you created at least three or four times. 4. Finally hold all four of the ends that are around the knot and pull then all slowly at the same time. Once you have the knot tight you can then trim the tag ends.
