I live in Port Clinton, Ohio and want to start fishing for walleye. Where should I start?
The best place to catch fish in Port Clinton, Ohio is in Lake Erie. If you are anxious to get out after the winter, April fishing by the western shorelines by the many reefs is a good place to start. Now, you have to have some experience with jigging to fish this area. Use an ounce jig with a minnow in about four to twelve feet of water. You should hook a walleye or two this way at this time of year. In May, you can fish the western area basin where you will find some good-sized walleyes. They average around twenty-two to twenty-six inches. Use a bottom bouncer with two hooks and a four-foot lead. You should also add some gold beads and a gold blade. June fishing on Lake Erie is the best because the water temperatures are warm and the walleye are extremely hungry and ready to bite. The western basin is good in June and July. August is a weird month for catching walleye because the water warms up to much. You can catch some, but they are inactive in the warmer waters. September through November you should move over to eat of Port Clinton about twenty or so miles where you will find some nice walleye. You will enjoy fishing by Port Clinton, just remember where the good areas are during certain months and use the right bait. You are going to catch some nice sized walleyes out of this area. Lake Erie is a great place to fish by the Huron area as well.
