Consider trolling with a crankbait when walleye fishing. This
method probably works better than any other for general use no matter
the conditions in which you are fishing. It keeps the lure in
the water and in your strike zone longer. Make use of a topographical
map and a depth finder to locate structure and bait fish, and keep that
line where the action is trolling with crankbaits!
If you want to fish for walleye with lures, technique is
key. You have to cultivate the skill of using
casting jigs in a manner to mimic live fish crawling and moving through
the water. A six to seven foot rod will work well as long as
it is not too flexible to sense strikes and set your hook.
Use five to ten pound test line and jigs from 1/16 all the way up to
3/8.
Just a little homework on what makes walleye tick, and behavior
patterns, being open to new territory, and using these tried and true
tips and techniques can make ever walleye fishing expedition a
successful one.
