Walleye Fishing Techniques

If it seems that you are getting nowhere with your current walleye fishing techniques, then you should try a different bait or a different casting method. If you’ve tried everything, move a few feet one way or another and try again. Patience is a definite virtue that’s required for walleye fishing. Don’t assume you are using the wrong equipment or that it’s just one of those days – give the bait (the nightcrawler or leech or whatever you’ve chosen) get out in the water and do its job. If you wait, the walleye will come.

One important thing to remember is that walleye, much like other fish, can develop a routine, even around the way that you are fishing, based on instinct. If you want to have a better chance at catching walleye, fishing techniques should be varied, with different trolling speeds, altering jig retrieval methods, a change of snell length, and other aspects of the sport. The key to successful walleye fishing is to be versatile and creative in your walleye fishing techniques. While these fish aren’t smart, they are instinctual, and you have to work to keep them guessing.
