3. Vertical
Jigging - This is the best technique to use when the walleyes are
spawning. When there are many people in a boat it can be hard
to troll. Using vertical jigging can make it easier for a few
people to fish out of one boat at a time. You are going to
need to use a fish finder to get to the fish.
Once you have found a large school, you can begin the vertical jigging
to bring them in. If you do not have a fish finder, try and
locate the schools of minnows or other types of bait fish that attract
the walleye.
4. Get
fishing reports- This will prevent you from fishing blind. You will
know more about the fishing area, the types and sizes of fish there and
can even get some clues into what the walleye have been biting lately.
This will help you succeed with your own fishing endeavors.
5. Fish at
Dawn or Dusk - Finally, if you really want to land a lot of walleye,
you need to fish when the walleye are feeding. The most
active feeding times are when the sun is coming up or when it is going
down. Walleye do not like bright or open areas and prefer to
feed when there are a good deal of shadows on the lake. This
is probably the most peaceful time for the anglers as well.
When fishing at these times of day, you are going to want to use live
bait. This is what the walleye are going to be looking for so
you should use the same kind of baitfish that they are going to be
feeding on.
Those who follow the above tips are going to find that they are landing
more of the tasty walleye. Make sure if you are fishing
during the day that you stay away from the open water. You
are not going to get as many fish as when you fish during their feeding
times, but you can catch a few. Walleye are a fun fish to
catch and taste really great as well. The most important
thing to remember is to have fun!
