Bottom surfaces are preferred to be rocky or gravel in nature. Water temperatures are mostly cold although the occasional warm waters of a summer day are not entirely shied away from.

Location also plays a crucial part of walleye life. They prefer structures in moderate water depths with deeper waters right around the corner. Lure selections should mimic the movements of crawfish, a walleye food favorite. Be prepared for a hard snap on the line as a walleye tries to steal this food source before another fish comes along. Things remain much the same for the fall season.

Winter brings colder water temperatures which in turn bring slower moving walleyes. Match movements to this slower pace by letting lures linger just a few more minutes than normal. Fish deeper water levels paying careful attention to structures.
