Lake Erie has plenty of areas where you can use a bottom bouncer by the
reefs. These areas are good for early mornings and cloudy days. Walleye
fishing in the Western and Central Basins is going to produce a good
catch. You can use the most basic bait to catch the walleye.
If you are going fishing on Lake Erie, you can try the Ohio side, the
Michigan side or the Pennsylvania side. Not many people fish the New
York side, but there are a few good places to fish for walleye as well.
If you take a fishing trip to Pennsylvania, you can fish the area by
the Presque Isle. The water is a bit calmer and you can remain in one
place and let the walleye come to you.
Anglers are anxious to get out on Lake Erie, but they still have to
find the right areas or the walleye fishing might be disappointing. Use
the right bait for the area and the type of fishing you are doing. Talk
to the local bait shops to find out the fishing reports from local
anglers. These anglers know the waters better than anybody does, even
the DNR, which keeps track of the fishing, but not all the hidden spots
that the locals know about for walleye fishing.
The bait you use is going to differ from place to place. The most you
will need is crankbait, jigs, a Rapala and some minnows or night
crawlers. In other words, you will be all set with a small tackle box
unless the walleye manages to steel the bait.
