If you have to fish clear water in high light, you should always
concentrate on deeper than 30 feet of water, because you really will
not find the walleye any more shallow than that.
Walleye will be looking for bait fish on the shady sides of humps as
well, so looking in these areas could find more fish ready to bite as
well. If you focus on shallow humps that have really big rocks, it will
help, because the rocks absorb lots of heat in the daytime, and the
minnows really gravitate to this warmth. If you find the minnows there,
you should also be able to easily find walleye there ready for an easy
meal. Another pointer is to look for areas where there are the presence
of both shoreline and the big rocks close to which the minnows look for
warmth and shelter.
One thing you will learn about Lake Eerie is to expect the
unexpected. Plenty of people fish here and they get great
results with walleye and various other types of fish. You can
be just as productive and successful with the trip you set out
on. Walleye are a great option for this Great Lake, but do
not overlook the other options you have, too.
